They're set and forget things and I imagine it depends on the area you need to cover but they kill everything but the plants in the homebox's I grow in. More importantly for me, they give that little extra peace of mind by keeping a couple on hand as I get closer to the chop. Most insect regimens are way too brutal on the taste of the final product when you're talking flowering plants IMO. --r

    Thumbs up Garden looks great

I looked in at the girls this morning. I fed the plants that were missed the previous day. I learned a lesson not to over water as that causes them to be behind the others, and I want them all to be on the same feeding schedule if I can.

The plants are doing wonderfully and I see no more pest issues. I suspect that when Sal sees them he'll say they need a good thinning. I measured the tallest and it's at 36.5 inches from soil to flower top. They have stopped putting on height and are now focused on flower production. I posted some pictures of the crop in the Albums section. Black Diamond OG Kush crop 3.

Default Saturday and I Ain't Got No Money

    Dear Grow Diary,

    You rule.

I returned the fogger to Sal. I nearly shit a brick when he said that one costs $800. He generously offered it again for the next time I have any bug issues. I feel pretty confident that last the pass with the fogger did the trick.

I haven't seen the girls since this morning. I will be removing some fan leaves probably tomorrow morning. The top canopy is getting quite thick. I don't like it when there are flowers who are not getting any light.

Some new grow-room prep work went on today. Me and the Mrs. spent the day sorting out the garage, and finding shit that shouldn't have been stored where it was. I finally found the damn safety goggles I wanted for the fogging. With it sorted tomorrow we will be clearing the basement and storing that stuff in the newly tidied garage. And then work will begin in the new and larger grow room. This room will be my flowering room, and my current room will be for clones, seedlings, and clone mothers.

Sal thinks I'll be dropping about $14K just on grow gear (lights and accessories, AC unit, pots and barrels, Rickenbaker bass guitar, and more). The room renovations shouldn't be that expensive. Mostly intend on throwing up 3/8 plywood on one unfinished wall and on the ceiling.

    I'm hungary.

Thumbs down Damn bugs are back

The fucking bugs are back. They need another fogging as I saw a tiny white insect under a leaf tonight while inspecting them.

I will clean off some of the major fans leaves next time before fogging. This should expose more leaf to the blower. These buggers are hardy.

I suspected you would have been one of the few who caught that extra item I added to Sal's list.

After my eyes quickly scanned his list, I easily saw there were some missing items.

There is little doubt a PRS will help improve yield (especially if you have the trem added as you suggest), and will add what could be considered a general overall improvement to the garden. And it will continue to improve every subsequent garden, too.

I have this strong feeling that my garden suffers badly from Les Paul Standard deficiencies. I just checked my plant feed storage locker and none of the feeds have any of it. With this crop I'm going after tone, and there isn't too much that touches the Les Paul Standard as an awesome additive to improve your garden's tone. Especially if you are already suffering from deficiencies. I'm lucky to have caught this early.

Fortunately the garden can recover quickly from this terrible affliction but it will cost the grower tons of cash. You'll wonder why does this food supplement cost over double what the other food company's products cost. Perfectly good foods such as Strats, Teles, or even Explorers cost half of what the Les Paul Standard supplements cost. The manufacturers even claim these products are just as good a garden supplement as the Les Paul. I have seen gardens and heard of growers who have never bothered with adding any Les Paul, and they claim their smoke is just as good and will stand by this claim.

It does sound suspicious but I can stand by this claim as I, too, have sampled and even produced crops with no Led Paul added. There is definitely a difference in taste (many would say "improvement") but it's not a deal breaker in my opinion.

Maybe it's a personal thing but I do feel that adding some Les Paul does improve the crop in an overall way and it should be a big part of the grower's tool kit even when it's so damn expensive.

Sometimes gardeners will ask to borrow some Les Paul from fellow gardeners in hopes of improving their crop, but many gardeners don't care for lending out their Les Paul. They will come over with their Led Paul and help out their friends but they won't lend it out. Sometimes Les Paul owners won't even let another gardener touch their Les Paul no matter how bad the crop has become.

What is a poor grower to do?

That manufacturer competes by charging more than their nutes are worth in an attempt to draw in the pricier=betterer crowd.

Their Studio line is much cheaper, even less with a satin finish.

Or you could get an SC 58 if eye candy and seductively low action are your thing

My garden has improved with each new guitar, however I must also point out that we had less Global Warming when their were more Pirates so there may be a correlation-causation error going on but so far I've found no reason to investigate

Dude, it was moving. Under every leaf I examine I watch first for movement. If I don't see any, I rub my finger on it to initiate movement. Sometimes this will get the little buggers moving. When I flipped the leaf over and watched, I saw this little bastard happily moving to another spot on my leaf!!!! It was close to the vain.

Good one. Ya got me laughing. Not a problem for me since my balls are so large.

But he rarely walks because he's drives a Toyota, and walking is for chumps.

    Grow Room Update
The damn bugs are back. I pulled off some more leaf tonight and I saw more thrips. I sticked and tied a few plants tonight, too. Buds are swelling nicely.

I also started a seed grow of Skunk Berry. I am pleased on how well these beans popped, and I got them into pots today.

I'm undecided if I want to explore using some of the Dr. Hornby's food on these that MidnighToker recommended. I switched to General Hydroponics 3-part system when Sal took over as my mentor but I never truly did run the plants to harvest to see if there was a difference between the foods. I want to now because I will soon have the space to do it.

    I want to start more.

I was at 8.6% of my legal plant count, but adding these 5 bumps me up to 12.7%.

Once my new room is finished I will be swimming in plants and hopefully with many mothers from many different strains.

And while I'm on a role, I can't wait to smoke some PeakSeedsBC weed. I have written a shit load about it.

    Arrow Another day

Not too much happening with JohnnyMan and his garden.

The thrips continue to attack my flowering plants, and there's nothing I can do. The plants are doing well despite the attack. They are in day 30 of bud. The flowers fatten each day. Last night was watering night.

My new seed grow is happening, too. Plants jumped out of seed and pots. I have them under 2 T5 lights now.

Rolled and smoked a joint last night for the first time in years. Went out on the back deck and lit up. Definitely a taste difference between joint and bong, with joint being much better. It was a pleasure I had forgotten.
Took a long time to smoke the damn joint compared to bong, though. Had to really suck on that sucker, and then there was the roach to chuck. No big deal as it goes down the toilet along with my bong ash. The bong is nice because you can take a bigger hit before bailing.

I'm coming to the conclusion that I have built up a small tolerance to this OG Kush because I feel I can smoke some not feel the effects as I did previously. Maybe I should do another test?

I think I hear my bong calling me.....

JohnnyMan and his wife are animal lovers.

2 months ago we lost our little dog to cancer. We had no idea how sick she was. She started showing signs of not being herself. We took her to the vet. He put her on 2 types of medicine. When she got worse a few days later, an x-ray showed she had cancer in her liver and it had moved into her lungs. She was dead 2 days later. We were devastated as our pets are our children. Today we are still dealing difficultly with the loss. That little dog brought us so much happiness and joy that it is difficult to put into words.

Today hasn't been a good day.

    Thank you Tweedybird,

Even though it's been over 2 months ,both my wife and I still have good and bad days. This dog loved to snuggle and be close. We miss that little puppy a lot as the house seems completely empty without her.

We're taking a break from pets for the short term as we're not ready yet. Having them is a joy, losing them is brutal.

About a month ago we lost our 12 year old mini schnauzer to cancer, too. It's never easy, and you tell yourself as you let yourself get more and more attached to them that they won't live forever... But it never helps.

And Rolnik it was fifty bucks for the little shitter every month but I gladly paid it because she gave us back so much. We have other dogs, cats too so when one leaves us its not quite lonely but we do miss them. A lot.

My condolences JM. feeling it for you, too.

Cuddling up a little tighter tonight to this most amazing, lovable 2 year old Dobie I'm blessed with. This one WILL live forever.

    Hi GreenMeds,

    Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Taking on pets can be both blissful, and then heartbreak and anguish beyond words. Most of the time we don't think of the later when we agree to take on a new member of the family.

We only had our little one for 7 years. We were expecting at least another 7 years out of her, and we had made future plans around that. Her passing was most unexpected and tragic.

Your comment, "that they won't live forever... But it never helps." is most ironic because about maybe 2 months before we knew there maybe something wrong with her, I was holding her in my arms and she had rested her head on my neck under my chin as I was rubbing her belly, I said out loud to her, "it is not going to be good when you pass." I said it matter of factly, completely oblivious that this would be the start of the last 2 months I was ever going to have with her.

Treasure the moments you have now.

    Arrow Dear Diary

My current crop of OG Kush is doing well despite the constant thrip attack. We are in day 37 flowering and the buds are fattening up well. I intend on significantly thinning these plants on Sunday. This will be the last major thinning before harvest. I intend on taking all of the larger leaves off and leave only the smallest leaves (nothing bigger than a golf ball, say). From now on, it's bud development I want them to focus on.

My PeakSeedsBC Skunk Berry grow is also doing well. The 6 seedlings seemed to have not minded the seaweed concentrate water mixture I gave them last. I will be posting pictures later today at another thread. They were on full 24-hour light period but now I bumped them back to 16 hours on.

I want to start more seeds but grow room construction has been holding me back.

My new flowering room construction is progressing slowly. I'm having a hard time getting it into gear during the weekday evenings after work. After evening garden tending, I don't feel like doing any more work - especially construction. The weekends, though, are good for progress. The plan is to be able to hang the ceiling and walls before the end of Sunday. Then it's lights and AC unit.

Have you thought of introducing a predator to take care of the thirps?
Last I was at the garden store, lady bugs were under 20 bux.
