    Talking HPS bulbs

so what exactly is the deal with HPS bulbs being good for a length of time and then changed out.
If memory is on it, something about lumens lost from bulb after so long.
Does the usable light spectrum change in time?
$71 shipped on a 1000 watt hortilux now -a- days
is a lot better than indoor garden store when they came out and were $129.99
but for a person on a budget it is hard to choose sometimes.
crazy but lower wattages are about the same price so bout time for the 430 is not all that cost effective.

Basically over time there is lumen loss. I notice when my bulb is getting older because buds become more airy. I keep track of the hours on my bulb so I have a good idea of when to replace.

When all I had was a 400w, I used to buy cheap bulbs for $6 each and change them out after 1-3 months, I forget which but the bulbs were changed out when still "new" for maximum efficiency.

How about the dual arc hortilux bulbs? although they seem VERY pricey!
