    Default Back In The Game

I figured I better start this today. Been awhile since I've been able to do something this thorough so want to document it as I grow along.
Starting from an empty room and building out. I'll be converting an 11 X 9 room into veg and bloom areas. Here's my product list thus far. Picked up and ready to instal
    2 Lumatek 1000W ballast ( will be using 240)
    4 MH/HPS bulbs
    2 Verizontal shades(42")
    4 X 8 table
6" exhaust fan with ducting and can filter
    rezzie - 60 gallon
    drip stakes and tubing
    4" cubes, 1 box
    20 6" slabs
    new dryer plug
cycle timers for fans, rez pumps, air pumps
    2 circulation fans
light timer ( can't remember the brand at the moment)
B/W plastic for portion of walls
flat white paint for upper walls
2 x 4's for one wall frame with door
    caulking for around wall frame
pullies and rope with wall tie offs
oil heater for room ( a bit too cool but should work well to keep rez temp balanced/low)
    thermostat to regulate exhaust fan
    PH pen
    PPM pen
    babies..... Kush
    2 power bars
air pumps with stones and tubing

    Mother Room
    3 bubble pots
2 X 5 table with 2 banks of 2 T5 lights for veg of babies in 1" cubes and then into 4" cubes
hopefully this will keep the stretch down and the roots up, or at least that's the plan.
    rez for bubble pots
    air pump and tubing
    feed pump and tubing
    timers for lights and pumps
400 W ballast and bulbs with horizontal batwing shade
    2 fans for circulation
I'll be utilizing the exhaust in the bloom room through ducting in the
common wall with backdraft preventers to make sure no light is exchanged.

Oh yea, nutes I'll be using :
Botanicaire Pure Blend Pro Grow and Bloom along with Cal-Mag and Liquid Karma and Clearex.
I'm keeping this simple till I get everything tuned in then will branch out from there.
I also have a strain of Cali Orange from back in the day that I'll be adding into the mix at some point, but for now have to start out with the Kush.

I'll have pics as I build out and up in the next day or so and you can see through all the stages.

    Peace

A quick update, pics later today.
Babies arrived, took 5 days to root. They came bare so had to trim the roots and replant into 1" cubes for another 6 days to get footing.

They are now in the 4" cubes under 600W MH for not sure how many days?? Maybe another 7 to get some real good white ones coming through before putting them onto the slabs.

Have to finish off the electrical addons for the ballasts etc and add in the fans. Who would of thought it would be such a pain to find fans this time of year... back to the grow store

Hahaha, been there. it does suck. Was it a centrifugal fan or an oscillating fan? Oddly I found the oscillating fan the hardest to source in Canada in the winter(wall mounts especially) I woundup buying mine from the hydro store and I think it cost me 70 bucks for a 16inch plastic wall mount(overpriced imo - and 2 years later it is broken). There's a local guy on craigslist selling new 8inch Centrifugals on craigslist out of a warehouse at pearson airport if that's what you had in mind. Half the price of the hydro store here, amazon also has cheap booster duct fans prewired (think i bought one for 27.00 including shipping and came with 6inch cord and 220cfm). Might not be enough for your heavy duty, if it's powering a cooltube. Definitely enough for passive or continuous air exchange.

MNT it was an oscilating fan. Strange how the stores feel it's a "summer" item. Even Home depot had them all locked away till spring.
Never mind a coupe quick calls to some friends and I'll have 2 new shiny 16" floor models here in the morrow.
Till then here's some more pics...

OK, so, 5 days in 4" cubes for roots to show well through the bottom and now, they are in their final home on slabs to finish the foinal days of veg.
The 24 hours of dark before the flip.
Apparently the strain I'll be working with this round is OG Kush. Can't tell you from where, so that said have to go grab some beans that I know are what they say they are and start from scratch next round.
    Here's the girls....

    Default Bloom Time

I did a 24 hr rest and then flipped to 12/12 the other day. I'm on day 4 of bloom.

From putting them onto the table to now they have gone from 3" to 9". I'm seeing a bit of stretching so this may help in deciding if I have Bubba or OG Kush as I'm not familiar with how this strain acts.
Internode distance ranges from 3/4" all the way to 1 1/4 so quite a difference. Fortunately the two I kept for mothers have the shorter internode distance.

Temps: lights on- 82-84 degrees. Lights off- 72-74 thogh had a bit of a dip before regulating the heater.
Humidity- 40 lights on 50 lights off with exhaust fans on 24/7 and circulation fan same.

Nutes have been raised to 1.2 EC / 780 ppm and PH 5.9

I seem to be having a challenge as far as the leaves are cupping. There is no sign of burn and the lights were raised a few days ago when this first started. From what I remember this could be a Mg intake problem so will adjust nutes accordingly with some GuanoAdd from HigroCorp to see if that helps.
Feeding is only once a day for 3 minutes as any more seems to create an overwatering effect on the plants ie. drooping as if they are over saturated for an expended period of time before recouperating so don't want to stress them too much.

Pics are at end of light period day 2.

    Cheers.

Thanks MT, doing my best to keep track and document along the way as well. Lost all my old records so have to start compiling again with as much research as possible.

SO far have managed to not get any build up on the 4" cubes. Likely due to the low humidity levels I'm suspecting. We'll see how long that holds up as the feeding schedule increases.

good to see another great looking hydro thread! good house keeping goes along ways for sure. I cover cubes with squares of white plastic to combat the green meanies but they do sell hard plastic caps/covers too.

    Update time. Bloom day 7.
Room temp low 69 high 78
    humidity low 30 high 50
    EC 1.6 PPM 1040
    PH 5.7/5.9
average height is 13.5" and filling nicely.

I am a bit concerned that I won't have enough height/room to take the lights up but will remedy that for the next round by taking the table down 12" which should give ample room for light movement.
I'll be cutting out squares to cover the 4" cubes to put on tonight just to make sure the "green meanies" don't get a chance to start.

One thing I did notice was the particulate left on the cubes from using the botanicaire pro food. Looking in the rezzy I can see floaters so not sure if they have separated out of the solution or this is a normal factor. Rez is quite cool, 64 F steady.

Foliar spraying will also start next lights on period with CalX @ .5/ml /L.

    cheers.

    They look really good bro.

I'm not a hydro guy, but a friend of mine who runs it claims the roots need to be kept around 73 degrees, is there any truth to that?

You know me, so this won't come as a surprise, but I still swear by cooltubes. If you want to gain another 8-12 inches on the table you're about to lower, add a cooltube. and you can gain probably another 8-12 inches vertical.
If you run out of space give me a call, I've got a couple loaner cooltubes that are nice and clean and waiting to be used.

Thanks bro. As to the roots, I've heard/read a variety of things. I find keeping them a bit cooler ( i actually have a thermo in there as well and they avg 68F/20-21C) to reduce the chances of pythium getting a hold.
The twice daily feedings give them a nice refreshing wash and feed at the same time, at least that's how I've pretty much always done it.
Thanks for the loaner offer, I may just take you up on that. I'll know better as I get along another week or so. Stretching seems to have stopped and I really have no idea about how tall these girls are gonna go. Stopping at about 24" works for me but will still be tight

    cheers

    Default Quick Pic Update

Here's the girls at day 9 after first rezzy change ( today is day 12)

Average height ranges between 13.5 and 19". All plants seem to be also having 3 to 4 cola sites which is interesting. The side branches have grown up to the main in a lot of them. I'll grab some stalk pics today/later as they are humungous by table standards.

Having a bit of a heat problem at lights off, going down to low. The challenges of a negative flow room and -20 temps

Finally found my camera as well so will switch to that instead of the phone and see if I can get some clearer/sharper images.

    Cheers.

Subscribed! I'm a passive hydro guy myself (more of a farmer than a scientist, I suppose ), so I can only watch and marvel as you tinker with the set-up. Great looking plants, and...

Sweet basement. As Martha Stewart says, it's amazing how an unused space can be made so inviting, just by adding a few live plants!

I'm really interested to see how big they get in flower, since you flipped them when they were still quite compact. Have you done any trimming at all? Do you have a training routine, or maybe you don't need one with your set up?

    Thanks for posting pics.

    Default 17 Daze In

Well, here we are at 17 daze in.
Not sure how happy I am with this mystery Kush ( OG or Bubba they weren't sure )

Nutes are still at about 3/4 strength and I think that's a good thing.
Man talk about stretch on these girls, legs all the way up to there!!

GreenMeds, yes, I trimmed the bottom third. They sprang from an avg of 18" up to 21-23 in a 24 hr period!! And there was so much waste at the bottom I trimmed a lot of it off as I'm not a big fan of trimming all that popcorn.
I am also one of those that pinch and bend and that was done during the first week of veg to try and keep them from stretching. Yea right

The good thing, those 4-5 mains for pretty much every plant so this could make me a bit happier, we'll see.

17 days in and buds are coming along nicely.Though I really would like to figure out why the big stretching. I'll have to choose wisely when I clone from the 2 I kept for moms.

Had a fgreak out the other day when the power was shut down for the complex. On the coldest day of the week of course, -12. What was supposed to be an hour turned into 5 and as I'm doing a negative air room keeping heat in there is pretty impotant. Well it went down to 14C before power came back on and then another 2 hours before I could get in to check the heat.
    Ahh well.

    Anyways, here's the girls today.

    Default and so it goes...

Hey. Here's a couple pics at day 22. Not much to report.
The girls are drinking pretty heavy, going through about 100 litres a week.
As I'm not familiar with this strain not sure how they porogress, though it looks as though it's pretty much par.

They seem to have maxed out at 32inches, 2 definite types here for sure as others , say 60% maxed at 25-27 inches.

I am a bender so did that to those that were getting a bit unruly. Very tough and resiliant this strain, that's for sure.
