Lightbulb Gonna try living with Chrome for a while

Just for giggles, I re-imported my bookmarks from Firefox into Chrome. I'm gonna give "Living with Chrome" a try for a few days and see how I like it.

i.e. Is going without AdBlockPlus going to bug da schite outta me?

Strike one against Chrome: Zimbra webmail doesn't use the AJAX interface with Chrome. What's the point of having the fastest JavaScript implementation on the planet without AJAX interfaces?

Strike two against Chrome: Integration of applications opening downloads sucks most heinously. Specifically, there is no way to get Chrome to automatically pass a .torrent download to Vuze, so you have to go through all kinds of hoops to save the files then open them manually with Vuze. Ugh.

If you install AdBlock with Chrome, and surf on over to TY, that HashBar.tv ad causes TY to fail.

This is really stupid, as the ads on TY are served by the TY website, so they don't get blocked by AdBlock or AdBlockPlus.

Except for that cursed HashBar.tv ad.

I guarantee I will never give such an arrogantly interfering company my business. They've really pissed me off by specificallly forcing the site to fail wherever their ad is displayed.

To hell with HashBar. No one gets to force me to view advertising.

Marco, major thumbs down on putting up with this crap from them.

I've had some trouble with Firefox and opening pdfs. Also had trouble with Ghostery with FF. In those cases I used Chrome ok, but I prefer FF.

I've updated FF to 4.0b11 and everything seems to be working.

Switched back to Firfox. Discovered if you disable AdBlockPlus for treatingyourself.com, the HashBar.tv ad doesn't mess up the browser.

Still, I am not happy with an ad that forces you to disable ad blockers.

    I like Chrome!

It is faster loading for me over IE or FF.

    I went from...

Microsoft > MSIE >>> FireFox >>> MSIE >>> FireFox >>> MSIE *Kablam, Windows dies*

    Linux > FireFox >>> Opera

Get New Net book (Windows)> Opera

and I tend to stick to Opera and have Opera mini on my mobile phone.

For nearly 2 years it was on my Linux machine and was my email client and torrent client for a while.

I tried Chrome recently and it is problematic and I have issues with the fact that a global marketing company such as Google (they have moved on from search engines and geek stuff) providing a web browser that IMHO is optimized for nothing more than delivery of adverts and tracking your activities online.

I look at browsers like most software and put it in to terms like this... "A workman has a set of tools that he knows works, will do what it says on the tin and he can perform most tasks asked of him with those tools. A Craftsman carries all he needs in knowledge."

Apply that to what you have on your computer and you will find that you need very few tools and I tend to keep FF as a backup and if its MSIE... You know, sometimes you have no choice.

After all that, one job I was in, despite all the tech machinery... We still had to manually rework stuff with chisels and mallets.

What happens when you leave it to FireFox to deal with popups? I just fired up FF 3.6.13 with no issues, maybe the issue is with the pop up blocker your using.

I second that. Never had issues with Opera, and I love the speed dial. There's also "Opera Turbo" tab that can be turned on or off (or automatic) that speeds up slow sites.. but it also causes some sites to brain-freeze.. like doing a loop on the login screen .

But it also can direct download a torrent for you.. no Vuze required.

Actually, only issue I've ever had, was also present with FireFox.. flashplayer not good enough for some sites, or slow for flashplayer updates as compared to winblows. That's running in Ubuntu as well.
