    Hello,
Forgive me for not first introducing myself. I am a 53 year old disabled Army vet. I am rated as 100% disabled. Not wheelchair bound yet, but need a cane to get around. While in the service I sustained horrific injuries including a crushed skull and 8+ damaged vertebrae and discs in my neck and back, injury to both knees and right hip. Eventually will need knees and hip replaced, and multiple disc removal and vertebral fusion operations. Clinical terms for my condition are DJD and DDD (degenerative joint disease and degenerative disc disease). Also sustained mild brain damage and nerve damage in both hands. Osteoarthritis is raging thru my body, with painful joint movement from head to feet, including fingers and toes. If not for being well muscled during injuries, I would have been dead at least 3 times. Weightlifting saved my life, so to speak. My best advice to others is: build and maintain a strong physique, exercise regularly, and, at the very least, stay moving. If you stop to sit down in a wheelchair, you will never get up again. Painful as it is, keep moving forward.
Needless to say, I suffer from severe chronic pain, PTSD, and chronic depression (a daily battle).
I would take the Long Journey, but my family still needs me.
Meds that I take are: 2 antidepressants (prozac and elavil), valium, celebrex (only when I have to move a lot, as I develop peripheral edema with continued use), and Ambien to sleep. I would really like to get off the antidepressants and Ambien, but without them I would not sleep and start the downward spiral into the pit.
Hope I don't sound like a crybaby. In the Army, if the doctors didn't see bright red blood spurting, or jagged white bone sticking out thru your flesh, you are Good To Go! Hoorah!
