tie them down a bit ?
squeeze the stems to soften them so they bend ?

what have any of you tried and if you tried more then one method what worked best for you ?

    Default well

some strains respond better and can do more with
anytime you bend, the plant should right itself within an hour or two. if not back off on the bending a little.
anywhere and the tops are first. i bend em till i can feel where the branch is stiffer than the rest. usually 6 inches or so. some stay pliable throughout
    headpain ill be right back

i too bend my girls over & tie them down especially when growing tall sativa strains.i dont snap my stems i just bend them over & within a day they are pointing towards the light again.when growing multiple strains i find that they all get interwinded with each other & stems get bent to get more light.

it work,s very well for me

    to many similarities.
    maybe common sence.
i know ive done nothin spectacular

Please understand i have a brain injury. sometimes its very hard for me to understand and communicate. the worst thing is when its so simple. its not a frequent occurance but it happens.
i beat up on myself because im not good as i feel i should be, maybe i should give credit where its due. easier said than done. what im sayin is i will get confusing every now and then. if it happens just ask a question and dont be angry. i just get frustrated and for the life of me im not in control of this. some days are much worse so ill stay away.
i only want to see you have what i have. great plants from the heavens!
    they are beautiful

might just do that! taint nothing special grab hold twist until you feel the fibers break down and then just bend the meristem over while twisting some and sort of rolling it over and using something to secure it in place until you are ready to move on to the next step of further bending!

Default anytime i bend and there is no right way or wrong way

i start when the plant is about 5 inches tall.
the bending is very gental and progresses as the plant grows, this is so the plant will think its part of life. when you bend a plant that wasnt bent from the start. it wont do as well as the one bent from the start. stress! stress = longer grow time!!
i bend and an hour later they are back to thier original position. now some grow to tall, so they are bent and kept bent for clearance issues. id like to grow a plant in the horizontal possition. all buds turn and grow straigh up. it looks very cool. its very difficult with an entire plant.
now durin the bending i personally dont feel or hear any noise comin from the plant till, the plant reaches a dertain age. usually just before flowering is introduced. then there is the stem noise, ive tried to make the stem noise and then ive tried not to make the noise. it seems the noise is damage if you stop as soon as you hear it, your plant will recover quicker. if you keep goin it takes longer and the buds seem to be smaller than the other one with little to no noise.
in my humble opinion, any noise is stress. stress is not good not at all. the plant will still grow and will be bigger reguardless of the method. unless you go to far, now ive also kinked a branch in 1/2 on purpose. the main stem actually. the bud above grew exponentially bigger than the rest of the plant.
so stress is bad but stress is good. go figure!
these are just things that have happened to me in my grows over the past 10-12 yrs.

im no expert but ive read enough about bending to come to the belief that what you are doing in general (maybe not always though) is not compleating the bending prosess BP , in fact IMO what you are doing is slightly stressing your plants only ,,, stress is stress

everything ive read says once bent it should remain bent , not grow straight

not always true, i have bent and twisted the side branches and they always go back to standing unless i have completely worn down the fibers and made the the stem mush then it will flop over and begin the healing process and will remain flopped over but will be thicker and more stout (if i dont like the way the branch is positioned after it is healed i will begin the bending where i want it, i usually do this a little at a time so as to give time to become stronger and stay where i want it.)

but as far as the meristem is concerned i flop it over hard and leave it tied down for a week or two (i will move what ever i am using to tie the stem down closer to the tip of the meristem if it has grown more then a few inches to keep the bend going in the direction i am wanting!)

so it just depends on what form of stress you are using. some want a tall plant in a small area so bending around the bucket keeps a 4 or 5 ft plant small i bet if i stood my girl up she would be close to the 3 ft mark but only takes up a space of 2 ft square and isnt taller then a ft or so.

i will get better pictures today or tomorrow that arent cell phone crappy and you can see better what i am doing (i am doing it differently then BP but not saying he is wrong, but this is what is working for me and the plant on the no love diet! as many of you know i was going through a divorce and had moved into my own place but things have changed and i am living back home but cant grow so i have one plant at my empty place that gets looked at once a week or less sometimes once in two weeks but she is doing just fine and growing growing growing! in a few weeks i am transfering her over to a 5 gallon smart pot or a 5 gallon global bucket as that will allow me to pay less attention to her but she will stay watered! just not sure what to do as i have both but the global bucket will require some drilling and putting together!)

when I bend, the branch stays down but the new growth will grow straight up,kind of like a fish hook, goes down but bends anf then goes straight up.
if your just lightly bending so the plants goes straight up in a few hours, your not truley bending but you are creating a killer strong stalk and help its ability to uptake more nutes/water.kind of making the plant do weightlifting.
