    Default DIY Bag style Vaporizer

***Warning - Heat guns get very hot as will the stainless steel parts over time. Be very careful not to burn yourself or anything near you (table, couch, carpet). DO NOT leave the heat gun unattended, you can start a fire.***

###DISCLAIMER - I post this merely as entertainment purposes and do not condone any illegal activity. I am also not responsible for any damage or harm that comes from anyone using this information in anyway.###

There used to be a couple posts here on making your own vape, I think they got lost last time the site was rebuilt so I figured I'd make a new one. The pictures are from a friends set up.

Ok so the first picture is what is used.

    3 Stainless steel pipes/pipe fittings
    Some stainless steel screen-fine mesh
These can be found at local welding shops or metal suppliers.

    A decent heat gun.
The Wagner model was ok but Stienel makes the best imho. They have a new line that are digitally adjustable and have adjustable airflow too (very helpful). Any of the ones in the link below would be very good choices.

    http://www.steinel.net/products/heat...c_heatguns.cfm

Here are some good prices on some.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B000MUO0VS

    http://www.amazon.com/Steinel-Intell.../dp/B000CORPVG

This is a great priced option from Steinel, I do not know for sure that its element is ceramic (ie safe) but will investigate further and post what I find out.

    http://www.amazon.com/Steinel-UltraH...1930978&sr=1-5

If the Steinel SV 803 UltraHEAT II has a safe element it would be fantastic as it is very well priced.

There is a gray thermoplastic fitting pictured that was used to attach as a mouth piece, later a sports bottle pop-top cap that fit the threads on the S.S. pipe was found to work best, allowing you to take controlled inhales without rushing or loosing vapor between inhales.

Ok so basically you need 3 pieces of s.s. pipe, two threaded on each end and then a s.s. coupler that has the same threads on the inside. The screen is cut to fit inside the coupler. Use one at the bottom (heat gun side) and one on top after putting the herb in the coupler. By using two you prevent herb from being blown into the bag when heating/vaping. This is very important if you do not get a variable airflow heat gun. IT also allows you to shake the herb around between heating to make sure you vape it evenly and completely. This shows a short and long pipe, the long piece on the heat gun side and short used to attach the bag to. Ok so that brings us to what bags to use. Reynolds oven bags work great. If you bought the bag replacements for the volcano you'd be able to adjust the bag size so that might be worth doing.

    So....

picture 2 is of the coupler with bottom screen installed and some sorta herb material "installed"

picture 3 is the coupler with the top screen installed

picture 4 is of the whole thing set up. Not a great pic but this project was years ago and I could only find this one, it gets the idea across.

There ya have it, DIY bag style vaporizer. You can use this to make one and adjust to your own style. Just be sure to invest in a decent ceramic element heat gun, the cheap models are dangerous to your health and we are using the sacred herb for our health after all.

So what is the dimension of the steel pipe etc. Does it fit tight against the top of the air gun?
looks fun and cheap. How is best way to attach bag etc. also looks like a large chamber for herbs do you have to add alot or will a little at time work?

here is a link for some are they good prices and all ceramic Heating Elements>

I don't have the pipe to measure but I think it was 1 1/2" It fits over the metal end of the heat gun and on many models sets down in the gap between the metal end and the plastic housing of the heat gun. The chamber is large but you can put as little or as much as you want in it. Usually a bowls worth works well. The adjustable airflow helps with smaller amounts. Also gently shaking the pipe while vaping ensures even heating/use of the plant material. The bags can be attached with a rubber band or hair tie. Steinels are good choices, I am not positive of the Ultaheat II line having a ceramic heating element but I am thinking it likely does.

    Hope that covers your concerns.

I used one of these for several years. My only serious complaint is that the bowl chamber is too big. It would not be hard to make a stepdown system to a smaller bowl however and this would probably improve performance.

    Greetings All,
Instead of using a threaded coupling, try using a threaded reducer
from 1 1/2" down to whatever works for you. May have to use more than one, this is the only draw back that I see, the overall size. I like the engineering though.

    Default UltraHeat not ultra-safe

It's probably not a sea of asbestos, but it's not the encapsulated element found in better Steinel guns---and note that it doesn't have the thermocouple feedback that keeps the better ones in line.

You'd be better off, I think, with a Milwaukee 8988-20 (or the refurbished -80), or the 1500W variable-heat Steinel sold as a Craftsman, or the 1100W variable-heat Steinel sold as a Makita.

Don't get me wrong, I love vaping and DIY'ing, but I don't really suggest making this.

The herb holder you make is fine because you can get safe metals and the turkey bags are the smae thing as the volcano bags. I just don't like the heat gun. I made somehting exactly like this like 3-4 years ago and it didn't see too much use. I didn't like how i couldn't find out if the gun was RoHS compliant and I didn't know everything that was in the airpath. You can find a RoHs compliant, ceramic heating element, clean airpath heat gun; it will just cost an arm and a leg.

I have been meaning to make this post for awhile, I finally got to it.

Nothing against the OP, it's creative and fun to make, it just not the healthiest thing. Probably healthier then straight up combustion but nowhere near as heathy as vaporizing can be.

I have a DIY vape I learned on another website, I made a few tweaks and have some upgrades down on paper, that I could post if there was interest. I am also currently doing some calculations to make myself a home made vaporizer based off of the Magic-Flight launch box vaporizer.
